We have been given the immense privilege and honor to open a kindergarten! Just a few days ago, we were approached by CONAFE, Consejo Nacional de Fomento Educativo ("National Council for Education Development") that works to design educational programs for marginalized communities in Mexico.
¡Se nos ha dado el inmenso privilegio y el honor de abrir un jardín de niños! Hace apenas unos días, CONAFE, el Consejo Nacional de Fomento Educativo, que trabaja para diseñar programas educativos para comunidades marginadas en México, se acercó a nosotros.
You see, enrollment for the coming school year is at an all-time high for San Pedro, the village where our base and community center, Casa MARKED is located. The local public “Jardin de niños” or kindergartens, are full which means the government was looking for an adequate space where another could be opened.
Lo que pasa es que los números de inscripciones para el próximo año escolar está muy altos en San Pedro, el pueblo donde se encuentra nuestra base y centro comunitario, Casa MARKED. Los jardines de niños, o, preescolares públicos locales están llenos, así que el gobierno estaba buscando un espacio adecuado donde se pudiera abrir otro.
We are overjoyed to announce that MARKED will be partnering with CONAFE to fill this need in our community. Thankfully, CONAFE is generously helping pay the salary of our group teacher, Angelica who you probably recognize from the Mommy & Me courses as well as some uniforms and books for the future students of the MARKED Kínder.
Estamos encantados de anunciar que MARKED se asociará con CONAFE para satisfacer esta necesidad en nuestra comunidad. Afortunadamente, CONAFE está ayudando generosamente a pagar el salario de nuestra maestra de grupo, Angélica, a quien probablemente reconozcas de los cursos de educación inicial en MARKED, así como algunos uniformes y libros para los futuros estudiantes de MARKED Kínder.

However, we have the task of preparing the space which means reorganizing our storage, purchasing tables, chairs and all of the other items needed to transform this room into a welcoming, fully equipped classroom by the end of August when the school year starts, in just three short weeks.
Sin embargo, tenemos la tarea de preparar el espacio, lo que significa reorganizar nuestro almacenamiento, comprar mesas, sillas y todos los otros elementos necesarios para transformar este cuarto en un salón de clases acogedor y completamente equipado para fines de agosto, cuando comience el año escolar, ¡en solo tres semanas!

Our staff has been busy cleaning, painting, reorganizing our storage and assessing what can be used for this school and what our needs are. We have created an Amazon Wishlist so that anyone who would like to contribute, can specifically choose what item/s their money will go towards (note that prices are in Mexican pesos). Every single purchase is a big help to us!
Nuestro personal ha estado ocupado limpiando, pintando, reorganizando nuestro almacenamiento y evaluando qué se puede usar para esta escuela y cuáles son nuestras necesidades. This opportunity is huge. The statistics show the incredible impact quality education can have on both an individual and community level. It's not just about putting diplomas in hands but useful tools, practical skills, and life values. Each of our programs are designed to immerse individuals in MARKED culture, one that they can carry with them wherever they go. This kindergarten not only allows us to impact the lives of the students but it also gives us direct contact with parents, teachers, and government workers, widening the circle of people we serve and our sphere of influence.
Esta oportunidad es enorme. Las estadísticas muestran el increíble impacto que la educación de calidad puede tener tanto a nivel individual como comunitario. No se trata solo de poner diplomas en las manos, sino también herramientas útiles, habilidades prácticas y valores de vida. Cada uno de nuestros programas está diseñado para sumergir a las personas en la cultura MARKED, una cultura que pueden llevar consigo dondequiera que vayan. Este jardín de infantes no solo nos permite impactar la vida de los estudiantes, sino que también nos brinda un contacto directo con los padres, maestros y servidores públicos, ampliando el círculo de personas a las que servimos y nuestra esfera de influencia.

Our dream is for this kindergarten to be a safe, encouraging learning environment for students, their families and even other educators in the area. We hope that by inviting teachers from other local schools for meals, workshops, and events, that they might be inspired and be given the confidence to try new methods and strategies with their students too.
Nuestro sueño es que este kínder sea un entorno de aprendizaje seguro y alentador para los estudiantes, sus familias e incluso para otros educadores de la zona. Esperamos que al invitar a maestros de otras escuelas locales a comidas, talleres y eventos en nuestro kínder, puedan ser inspirados y tener la confianza para probar nuevos métodos y estrategias con sus estudiantes también.
Though a contract has been signed just for the 2023-2024 school year, there is an option to extend and expand the MARKED Kínder after this pilot year. This sparks even more excitement in us and at the same time, reminds us of what a truly incredible opportunity this project is.
Aunque se ha firmado un contrato solo para el año escolar 2023-2024, existe la opción de extender y ampliar el Kínder MARKED después de este año piloto. Esto genera aún más entusiasmo en nosotros y, al mismo tiempo, nos recuerda la oportunidad realmente increíble que es este proyecto.
