Over the past week, across the country, Mexicans were busy organizing parties in town squares and events in schools to commemorate September 16th, 1810 when the country's fight for independence began. There were fireworks, tamales, churros, and mariachi music in abundance! It is a special time of year that reminds us of Mexico´s long journey to independence from Spain and also, how far Mexico has grown and advanced since then.
Durante la semana pasada, en todo el país, los mexicanos estuvieron ocupados organizando fiestas en plazas y eventos en escuelas para conmemorar el 16 de septiembre de 1810, cuando comenzó la lucha del país por la independencia. ¡Hubo fuegos artificiales, tamales, churros y música de mariachi en abundancia! Es una época especial del año que nos recuerda la larga jornada de México hacia la independencia de España y también lo mucho que México ha crecido y avanzado desde entonces.
September brings stories of overcoming challenges and coming out victorious. It is a month that for so many, signifies celebration and hope. Those two words seem to summarize our September thus far as well. The first few days of September ushered us into both a new school year and a new fall sports season. This month we have also opened a school, begun two more weekly educational programs for children in our area and too, reinstated our partnership at two local schools where we have been invited in to give daily meals, come alongside staff and parents with ongoing training and support sessions.
Septiembre trae historias de superación de desafíos y salidas victoriosas. Es un mes que para muchos significa celebración y esperanza. Esas dos palabras también parecen resumir nuestro mes de septiembre hasta el momento. Los primeros días de septiembre nos dieron paso a un nuevo año escolar y a una nueva temporada deportiva de otoño. Este mes también abrimos una escuela, comenzamos dos programas educativos semanales más para niños en nuestra área y también restablecimos nuestra asociación en dos escuelas locales donde nos invitaron a brindar comidas diarias, acompañar al personal y a los padres con capacitación continua y sesiones de apoyo.
As if that was not enough excitement, this month the MARKED soccer team held its first practices as well as training intensives with specialist Coach Luis. The team is undefeated and just this week was invited to play in the city at a local tournament, giving them the opportunity to show off their hard work and share our culture with other players which for us, is the greatest victory.
Como si eso fuera poco emocionante, este mes el equipo de fútbol MARKED tuvo sus primeros entrenamientos así como intensivos de entrenamiento con el especialista en entrenar, Coach Luis. El equipo no ha perdido y apenas esta semana fue invitado a jugar en la ciudad en un torneo local, dándoles la oportunidad de mostrar su arduo trabajo y compartir nuestra cultura con otros jugadores, lo que para nosotros es la mayor victoria.
Though we are just a couple of weeks into September so far, it has already been such a significant month, marking a season of new beginnings and planting seeds while also, as fall so typically is, a season of harvest too. Seeing the parents at our partner schools advocate for their children, hearing the kids encourage and congratulate others on the soccer field, and watching hardened hearts grow soft, are all examples of the fruit we are seeing. So, we celebrate.
We celebrate Mexico, we celebrate new opportunities to serve our communities and we look toward the future with such hope knowing the best is yet to come.
Aunque hasta ahora solo llevamos un par de semanas de septiembre, ya ha sido un mes muy importante, que marca una temporada de nuevos comienzos y plantación de semillas y, al mismo tiempo, como suele ser el otoño, también una temporada de cosecha. Ver a los padres de nuestras escuelas asociadas defender a sus hijos, escuchar a los niños alentar y felicitar a otros en el campo de fútbol y ver cómo los corazones endurecidos se ablandan, son todos ejemplos del fruto que estamos viendo.
Entonces, celebramos. Celebramos a México, celebramos nuevas oportunidades para servir a nuestras comunidades y miramos hacia el futuro con tanta esperanza sabiendo que lo mejor está por venir.
