As Easter approaches and we reflect on the scriptures accounting the incredible story, we are filled with awe. We know the story of Easter does not merely tell a historical event; it is a promise fulfilled and a testament to the transformative power of love and redemption. Jesus conquered the grave, offering us all the promise of new life and eternal hope. It is a miracle that transcends time, circumstance and every barrier imaginable, offering healing and restoration to all who believe.

Sabemos que la historia de la Pascua no se limita a contar un acontecimiento histórico; es una promesa cumplida y un testimonio del poder transformador del amor y la redención. Jesús conquistó la tumba, ofreciéndonos a todos la promesa de una vida nueva y una esperanza eterna. A young girl, who was thrown into a ditch, abandoned has been rescued and is safe in a place she calls home. She knows love.

The baby who was thrown into a dumpster at birth outside of the hospital building after his parents being told he had no hope to live. He has been healed.

El bebé que fue arrojado a un contenedor de basura al nacer afuera del edificio de un hospital después de que le dijeron que no tenía esperanzas de vivir. Ha sido sanado.

The young man who spent over six years in the streets of Guadalajara earning rank among the gangs, is now safe in rehab, and his life is being restored. Once suicidal, now full of hope. He is dreaming again. 

El joven que pasó más de seis años en las calles de Guadalajara ganando rango entre las pandillas, ahora se encuentra a salvo en rehabilitación y su vida está siendo restaurada. Una vez suicida, ahora lleno de esperanza. Está soñando otra vez.

The little girl who was burned and beaten, scared for her life and mute for years is now the most lively in the group, full of peace and joy. She has been transformed. 

La pequeña que fue quemada y golpeada, temiendo por su vida y muda durante años es ahora la más animada del grupo, llena de paz y alegría. Ella ha sido transformada.

Thank you for being a part of our journey and for sharing in the miracle of Easter daily. Together, we are witnessing God's love and grace in action, bringing hope and healing to individuals in need.

Though Thanksgiving is not a holiday that is celebrated in Mexico, we do love sharing the gringo traditions of macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie and sitting around the table together, sharing what we are thankful for. 

¡Esperamos que haya tenido un maravilloso Día de Acción de Gracias!

Aunque el Thanksgiving no es un día festivo que se celebra en México, nos encanta compartir las tradiciones gringas de macarrones con queso, casserole de ejotes, pay de calabaza y sentarnos juntos a la mesa, compartiendo aquello por lo que estamos agradecidos.

Here is certainly not an exhaustive list, but at least some of the things we are thankful for:

• the smiles we see each day, knowing lives are being touched 

• team devotionals, praying and having coffee together each morning to start our day off right

• support and encouragement from friends across the world, near and far 

• being able to serve over 300 meals each day to children in our communities 

• partnerships with schools and local sports organizations that allow more children to have access to education and safe recreational activities 

• fresh avocados, guavas and mangoes from our trees 

• Casa MARKED, our classroom and kitchen space that allow us to minister to thousands of people each week 

• safety amidst recent outbreaks of violence in our communities 

• sitting around the table sharing a meal together as a family 

Ciertamente esta no es una lista exhaustiva, pero al menos algunas de las cosas por las que estamos agradecidos:

• las sonrisas que vemos cada día, sabiendo que se tocan vidas

• devocionales en equipo en que oramos y tomamos café juntos cada mañana para comenzar bien el día

• apoyo y palabras de ánimo de amigos de todo el mundo, cercanos y lejanos

• poder servir más de 300 comidas cada día a los niños de nuestras comunidades

• alianzas con escuelas y organizaciones deportivas locales que permiten que más niños tengan acceso a educación y actividades recreativas seguras.

• aguacates, guayabas y mangos frescos de nuestros árboles

• Casa MARKED, nuestro espacio de aulas y cocina que nos permite ministrar a miles de personas cada semana.

• seguridad en medio de recientes brotes de violencia en nuestras comunidades

• estar sentados alrededor de la mesa compartiendo una comida juntos en familia

Whenever we remember our many blessings, whether alone or in a group, in conversation or while singing praises, we are changed. Our minds are refreshed, our energy renewed and our hearts are refilled, ready to generously pour out yet again. 

Now, it’s time to put up the tree and get ready for our Christmas festivities in just three weeks!

Cada vez que recordamos nuestras muchas bendiciones, ya sea solos o en grupo, en una conversación o mientras cantamos alabanzas, cambiamos. Nuestras mentes se refrescan, nuestra energía se renueva y nuestros corazones se llenan, listos para derramarse generosamente una vez más.

¡Ahora es el momento de poner el árbol y prepararnos para nuestras festividades navideñas, porque solo faltan tres semanas!

What a week! | ¡Qué semana!

This past week was a busy one and at the same time, such a beautiful one. There were so many special moments. So, here is a look at a few of them!

La semana pasada fue muy ocupada y, al mismo tiempo, muy hermosa. Hubo tantos momentos especiales. Así que aquí, ¡te compartimos un pequeño vistazo a algunos de ellos!

Yes, we have shared a bit about soccer recently but our programs and teams are thriving! This week, we saw yet again how being a part of the sports community is opening doors to minister more personally to neighboring towns and families. Our team won again this week but the true victory was seeing our boys congratulate the other team and invite them to come have lunch at Casa MARKED. Afterwards, the two teams and coaches enjoyed a meal together, laughing, and reliving the excitement of the game together. Our boys have learned quickly; it´s not about winning or losing. It´s about being the best version of yourself that you can be, on and off the field!

Sí, hemos compartido un poco sobre fútbol recientemente, ¡pero nuestros programas y equipos están prosperando! Esta semana, vimos una vez más cómo ser parte de la comunidad deportiva abre puertas para ministrar de manera más personal a los pueblos y familias vecinas. Nuestro equipo volvió a ganar esta semana pero la verdadera victoria fue ver a nuestros muchachos felicitar al otro equipo e invitarlos a comer en Casa MARKED. Los dos equipos y entrenadores disfrutaron juntos de una comida, riendo y reviviendo juntos la emoción del partido. Nuestros muchachos ya han aprendido que no se trata de ganar o perder. ¡Se trata de ser la mejor versión de ti mismo que puedas ser, dentro y fuera de la cancha!

“The Lord knew” were words spoken multiple times this week. We had old and new friends of MARKED in town from the states this week and with them they brought truth and encouragement to our staff and other members of our community. For example, we had a scheduled meeting with some parents regarding school and future plans yet after addressing those details, it turned into a conversation about forgiveness. The focus shifted because this bigger need was revealed. So, a brief meeting became over an hour of learning how to release offenses, the power of true forgiveness and then praying together for the future of local schools and families.

“El Señor sabía” fueron palabras pronunciadas varias veces esta semana. Esta semana tuvimos viejos y nuevos amigos de MARKED en la ciudad desde Estados Unidos y con ellos trajeron verdad y aliento a nuestro personal y a otros miembros de nuestra comunidad. Por ejemplo, teníamos una reunión programada con algunos padres sobre la escuela y los planes futuros, pero después de abordar esos detalles, se convirtió en una conversación sobre el perdón. El enfoque cambió y una breve reunión se convirtió en más de una hora para aprender cómo liberar las ofensas, el poder del verdadero perdón y orar juntos por el futuro de las escuelas y familias locales.

Of course when we have friends in town, we do all we can to maximize time! Days are spent in the villages and evenings are spent catching up with friends and partners of MARKED in Guadalajara. We were fortunate enough to be able to sit down and have a meal with the local and global leadership of one of our partner churches, Bread of Life. Then, later in the week, our staff was also able to attend the dedication service of this church. People from all over the world were in attendance, of course some from Mexico, Guatemala, United States, and even others from Taiwan. As many nations, various families, and different ministries and organizations working in the Guadalajara area and beyond, we came together to worship, and to pray for our city and its people whom we love so dearly. It was a powerful time and we are thankful to have the opportunity to build community with local churches!

Por supuesto, cuando tenemos amigos en la ciudad, ¡hacemos todo lo posible para maximizar el tiempo! Los días se pasan en los pueblos y las noches se ponen al día con amigos y socios de MARKED en Guadalajara. Tuvimos la suerte de poder sentarnos y comer con el liderazgo local y global de una de nuestras iglesias asociadas, Pan de Vida. Luego, más adelante en la semana, nuestro personal también pudo asistir al servicio de dedicación de esta iglesia. Asistieron personas de todo el mundo, por supuesto algunos de México, Guatemala, Estados Unidos e incluso otros de Taiwán. Como muchas naciones, varias familias y diferentes ministerios y organizaciones que trabajan en el área de Guadalajara y más allá, nos reunimos para adorar y orar por nuestra ciudad y su gente a quienes amamos tanto. ¡Fue un momento poderoso y estamos agradecidos de tener la oportunidad de construir una comunidad con las iglesias locales!

This week we also got to celebrate the lives of two girls and the legacy of wholeness and faithfulness being shared with the next generation in Mexico. We celebrated Morgan and Chava´s daughter turning one and also, had the honor of accompanying Paty, Sam and their daughter as she shopped for her quinceañera dress. There were many happy tears and prolonged hugs as we celebrated these two beautiful girls, their families, as well as the perfect timing and plans of God.

What a week!

Esta semana también pudimos celebrar la vida de dos niñas y el legado de plenitud y fidelidad que está siendo compartida con la próxima generación aquí en México. Celebramos el primer cumpleaños de la hija de Morgan y Chava y también tuvimos el honor de acompañar a Paty, Sam y su hija mientras compraba su vestido de quinceañera. Hubo muchas lágrimas de felicidad y abrazos prolongados mientras celebramos a estas dos hermosas niñas, sus vidas, sus familias, así como los tiempos y planes perfectos de Dios.

September celebrations | celebraciones de septiembre

Over the past week, across the country, Mexicans were busy organizing parties in town squares and events in schools to commemorate September 16th, 1810 when the country's fight for independence began. There were fireworks, tamales, churros, and mariachi music in abundance! It is a special time of year that reminds us of Mexico´s long journey to independence from Spain and also, how far Mexico has grown and advanced since then.

Durante la semana pasada, en todo el país, los mexicanos estuvieron ocupados organizando fiestas en plazas y eventos en escuelas para conmemorar el 16 de septiembre de 1810, cuando comenzó la lucha del país por la independencia. ¡Hubo fuegos artificiales, tamales, churros y música de mariachi en abundancia! Es una época especial del año que nos recuerda la larga jornada de México hacia la independencia de España y también lo mucho que México ha crecido y avanzado desde entonces.

September brings stories of overcoming challenges and coming out victorious. It is a month that for so many, signifies celebration and hope. Those two words seem to summarize our September thus far as well. The first few days of September ushered us into both a new school year and a new fall sports season. This month we have also opened a school, begun two more weekly educational programs for children in our area and too, reinstated our partnership at two local schools where we have been invited in to give daily meals, come alongside staff and parents with ongoing training and support sessions.

Septiembre trae historias de superación de desafíos y salidas victoriosas. Es un mes que para muchos significa celebración y esperanza. Esas dos palabras también parecen resumir nuestro mes de septiembre hasta el momento. Los primeros días de septiembre nos dieron paso a un nuevo año escolar y a una nueva temporada deportiva de otoño. Este mes también abrimos una escuela, comenzamos dos programas educativos semanales más para niños en nuestra área y también restablecimos nuestra asociación en dos escuelas locales donde nos invitaron a brindar comidas diarias, acompañar al personal y a los padres con capacitación continua y sesiones de apoyo.

As if that was not enough excitement, this month the MARKED soccer team held its first practices as well as training intensives with specialist Coach Luis. The team is undefeated and just this week was invited to play in the city at a local tournament, giving them the opportunity to show off their hard work and share our culture with other players which for us, is the greatest victory.

Como si eso fuera poco emocionante, este mes el equipo de fútbol MARKED tuvo sus primeros entrenamientos así como intensivos de entrenamiento con el especialista en entrenar, Coach Luis. El equipo no ha perdido y apenas esta semana fue invitado a jugar en la ciudad en un torneo local, dándoles la oportunidad de mostrar su arduo trabajo y compartir nuestra cultura con otros jugadores, lo que para nosotros es la mayor victoria.

Though we are just a couple of weeks into September so far, it has already been such a significant month, marking a season of new beginnings and planting seeds while also, as fall so typically is, a season of harvest too. Seeing the parents at our partner schools advocate for their children, hearing the kids encourage and congratulate others on the soccer field, and watching hardened hearts grow soft, are all examples of the fruit we are seeing. So, we celebrate.

We celebrate Mexico, we celebrate new opportunities to serve our communities and we look toward the future with such hope knowing the best is yet to come.

Aunque hasta ahora solo llevamos un par de semanas de septiembre, ya ha sido un mes muy importante, que marca una temporada de nuevos comienzos y plantación de semillas y, al mismo tiempo, como suele ser el otoño, también una temporada de cosecha. Ver a los padres de nuestras escuelas asociadas defender a sus hijos, escuchar a los niños alentar y felicitar a otros en el campo de fútbol y ver cómo los corazones endurecidos se ablandan, son todos ejemplos del fruto que estamos viendo.

Entonces, celebramos. Celebramos a México, celebramos nuevas oportunidades para servir a nuestras comunidades y miramos hacia el futuro con tanta esperanza sabiendo que lo mejor está por venir.
