As you may already know, MARKED is working across various villages along the banks of Lake Chapala. Our community center, Casa MARKED is located in San Pedro Itzicán and serves as the base for our projects in surrounding areas like La Peña, Agua Caliente and Chalpicote, where this week, we reached an all-time high in the number of people served.
Como quizá ya lo sabes, MARKED está trabajando en varios pueblos a lo largo de las orillas del lago de Chapala. Nuestro centro comunitario, Casa MARKED, está ubicado en San Pedro Itzicán y sirve como base para nuestros proyectos por la zona, como La Peña, Agua Caliente y Chalpicote, donde esta semana pudimos atender a la cantidad de personas más alta de todo nuestro tiempo en esta comunidad.
Each week for a little over a year, we have spent time in Chalpicote´s one elementary school, where we were invited in by the director to support the school. Our team has worked hard to stretch our resources as far as possible in order to bring meals to the 100 students as often as we can, minimum once a week.
Cada semana durante poco más de un año, hemos pasado tiempo en la única escuela primaria de Chalpicote, donde fuimos invitados por el director para apoyar a la escuela. Nuestro equipo ha trabajado arduamente para aprovechar nuestros recursos lo más posible para poder llevar comidas a los 100 estudiantes con la mayor frecuencia posible, mínimo una vez por semana.
In addition to partnering with the school, over the past year we have spent time in the streets, building relationships with the families who live there, praying for them, sharing devotionals with them and of course bringing snacks and sandwiches as often as we can. When we first started, we brought about 100 sandwiches but when people heard about our weekly visits, more and more gathered each time. This week, we gave out over 350.
Además de asociarnos con la escuela, durante el año pasado pasamos tiempo en las calles, construyendo relaciones con las familias que viven allí, orando por ellos, compartiendo devocionales con ellos y, por supuesto, llevándoles snacks y sándwiches tan a menudo como podíamos. Cuando empezamos, trajimos alrededor de 100 sándwiches, pero cuando la gente se enteró de nuestras visitas semanales, cada vez se reunieron más y más. Esta semana repartimos más de 350.
Also this week, thanks to all of you in Guadalajara and Poncitlán that generously gave donations of clothes, shoes, and toys, we were able to hold our first Tienda MARKED (pop-up store) in the streets of Chalpicote. Thanks to you, our parnters, friends and families, the MARKED movement continues to grow, sparking transformation in multiple communities, reaching thousands of people each week. Our hope is that in Chalpicote, whose very name translates to “the wave splashing onto the rock” that we can usher in waves of positive change that ripple with dignity, belonging, hope and joy throughout the village, across Lake Chapala and beyond!
También esta semana, gracias a todos ustedes en Guadalajara y Poncitlán que generosamente donaron ropa, zapatos y juguetes, pudimos realizar nuestra primera Tienda MARKED en las calles de Chalpicote. Gracias a ustedes, nuestros socios, amigos y familiares, el movimiento MARKED continúa creciendo, generando transformación en múltiples comunidades y llegando a miles de personas cada semana. Nuestra esperanza es que en Chalpicote, cuyo mismo nombre se traduce como “la ola que salpica en la roca”, podamos marcar el comienzo de olas de cambio positivo que se propaguen con dignidad, pertenencia, esperanza y alegría por todo el pueblo, a través del lago Chapala y más allá.
