We are gearing up for one of our most-loved and highly anticipated events of the year and we want you to be part! This April 30th at Casa MARKED, we are going to celebrate the children in our programs with a special meal, goodie bags, gifts, and many fun activities but that´s not all!

¡Nos estamos preparando para uno de nuestros eventos más queridos y esperados del año y queremos que usted sea parte! Este 30 de abril en Casa MARKED vamos a celebrar a los niños de nuestros programas con un día lleno de comida especial, bolsas de regalos, un regalo y varias actividades divertidas pero eso no es todo.

Why do we celebrate Children´s Day? In 1924, Children´s Day was established in Mexico as a day to recognize the most vulnerable members of our society - our children. They are the ones who feel the impact of crises and challenges the most, yet their resilience and potential are boundless. This day is not just about festivities; it's a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to nurture, protect, and advocate for the rights of every child.

¿Por qué celebramos el Día del Niño? En 1924, se estableció en México el Día del Niño como un día para reconocer a los miembros más vulnerables de nuestra sociedad: nuestros niños. Son ellos los que más sienten el impacto de las crisis y los desafíos, pero su resiliencia y su potencial son ilimitados. Este día no se trata sólo de festividades; es un poderoso recordatorio de nuestra responsabilidad colectiva de nutrir, proteger y defender los derechos de cada niño.

So, this month in addition to celebrating the 500 children in our programs at Casa MARKED and local public schools, we are working to raise awareness, and inspire action so that they, along with the other young people across the areas we can serve and beyond have access to basic rights like safety, education and the right to play!

Entonces, este mes, además de celebrar a los 500 niños en nuestros programas en Casa MARKED y escuelas públicas aliadas, estamos trabajando para crear conciencia e inspirar acciones para que ellos, junto con otros jóvenes en las áreas donde podemos servir y más allá, tengan acceso a derechos básicos como la seguridad, educación y derecho a jugar!

He is Risen Indeed: Celebrating Easter's Miracle of Love and Restoration!

As Easter approaches and we reflect on the scriptures accounting the incredible story, we are filled with awe. We know the story of Easter does not merely tell a historical event; it is a promise fulfilled and a testament to the transformative power of love and redemption. Jesus conquered the grave, offering us all the promise of new life and eternal hope. It is a miracle that transcends time, circumstance and every barrier imaginable, offering healing and restoration to all who believe.

A medida que se acerca la Pascua y reflexionamos sobre las Escrituras que relatan la increíble historia, nos llenamos de asombro. Sabemos que la historia de la Pascua no se limita a contar un acontecimiento histórico; es una promesa cumplida y un testimonio del poder transformador del amor y la redención. Jesús conquistó la tumba, ofreciéndonos a todos la promesa de una vida nueva y una esperanza eterna. Es un milagro que trasciende el tiempo, las circunstancias y toda barrera imaginable, ofreciendo sanación y restauración a todos los que creen.

A young girl, who was thrown into a ditch, abandoned has been rescued and is safe in a place she calls home. She knows love.

Una joven que abandonaron en una zanja ha sido rescatada y se encuentra a salvo en un lugar al que llama hogar. Ella conoce el amor.

The baby who was thrown into a dumpster at birth outside of the hospital building after his parents being told he had no hope to live. He has been healed.

El bebé que fue arrojado a un contenedor de basura al nacer afuera del edificio de un hospital después de que le dijeron que no tenía esperanzas de vivir. Ha sido sanado.

The young man who spent over six years in the streets of Guadalajara earning rank among the gangs, is now safe in rehab, and his life is being restored. Once suicidal, now full of hope. He is dreaming again. 

El joven que pasó más de seis años en las calles de Guadalajara ganando rango entre las pandillas, ahora se encuentra a salvo en rehabilitación y su vida está siendo restaurada. Una vez suicida, ahora lleno de esperanza. Está soñando otra vez.

The little girl who was burned and beaten, scared for her life and mute for years is now the most lively in the group, full of peace and joy. She has been transformed. 

La pequeña que fue quemada y golpeada, temiendo por su vida y muda durante años es ahora la más animada del grupo, llena de paz y alegría. Ella ha sido transformada.

Growing programs in Chalpicote | Crecimiento de programas en Chalpicote

As you may already know, MARKED is working across various villages along the banks of Lake Chapala. Our community center, Casa MARKED is located in San Pedro Itzicán and serves as the base for our projects in surrounding areas like La Peña, Agua Caliente and Chalpicote, where this week, we reached an all-time high in the number of people served.

Como quizá ya lo sabes, MARKED está trabajando en varios pueblos a lo largo de las orillas del lago de Chapala. Nuestro centro comunitario, Casa MARKED, está ubicado en San Pedro Itzicán y sirve como base para nuestros proyectos por la zona, como La Peña, Agua Caliente y Chalpicote, donde esta semana pudimos atender a la cantidad de personas más alta de todo nuestro tiempo en esta comunidad.

Each week for a little over a year, we have spent time in Chalpicote´s one elementary school, where we were invited in by the director to support the school. Our team has worked hard to stretch our resources as far as possible in order to bring meals to the 100 students as often as we can, minimum once a week.

Cada semana durante poco más de un año, hemos pasado tiempo en la única escuela primaria de Chalpicote, donde fuimos invitados por el director para apoyar a la escuela. Nuestro equipo ha trabajado arduamente para aprovechar nuestros recursos lo más posible para poder llevar comidas a los 100 estudiantes con la mayor frecuencia posible, mínimo una vez por semana.

In addition to partnering with the school, over the past year we have spent time in the streets, building relationships with the families who live there, praying for them, sharing devotionals with them and of course bringing snacks and sandwiches as often as we can. When we first started, we brought about 100 sandwiches but when people heard about our weekly visits, more and more gathered each time. This week, we gave out over 350.

Además de asociarnos con la escuela, durante el año pasado pasamos tiempo en las calles, construyendo relaciones con las familias que viven allí, orando por ellos, compartiendo devocionales con ellos y, por supuesto, llevándoles snacks y sándwiches tan a menudo como podíamos. Cuando empezamos, trajimos alrededor de 100 sándwiches, pero cuando la gente se enteró de nuestras visitas semanales, cada vez se reunieron más y más. Esta semana repartimos más de 350.

Also this week, thanks to all of you in Guadalajara and Poncitlán that generously gave donations of clothes, shoes, and toys, we were able to hold our first Tienda MARKED (pop-up store) in the streets of Chalpicote. Thanks to you, our parnters, friends and families, the MARKED movement continues to grow, sparking transformation in multiple communities, reaching thousands of people each week. Our hope is that in Chalpicote, whose very name translates to “the wave splashing onto the rock” that we can usher in waves of positive change that ripple with dignity, belonging, hope and joy throughout the village, across Lake Chapala and beyond!

También esta semana, gracias a todos ustedes en Guadalajara y Poncitlán que generosamente donaron ropa, zapatos y juguetes, pudimos realizar nuestra primera Tienda MARKED en las calles de Chalpicote. Gracias a ustedes, nuestros socios, amigos y familiares, el movimiento MARKED continúa creciendo, generando transformación en múltiples comunidades y llegando a miles de personas cada semana. Nuestra esperanza es que en Chalpicote, cuyo mismo nombre se traduce como “la ola que salpica en la roca”, podamos marcar el comienzo de olas de cambio positivo que se propaguen con dignidad, pertenencia, esperanza y alegría por todo el pueblo, a través del lago Chapala y más allá.

These were the words that resounded at our ribbon-cutting ceremony. This week was a big one in MARKED history as we opened our very first school, “Preescolar Nueva Galicia” which holds classes at our community center in San Pedro.

Estas fueron las palabras que resonaron en nuestra ceremonia de inauguración. Esta semana fue importante en la historia de MARKED ya que abrimos nuestra primera escuela, “Preescolar Nueva Galicia”, que imparte clases en nuestro centro comunitario en San Pedro.

As our staff, “padrinos” (community sponsors/advocates) and school board (made up of parents of students) stood together at the gates of Casa MARKED to officially open the school, our directors and founders spoke but surprisingly, one of the moms spoke up too. She had written out a letter of thanks to read and express the sentiments from all the parents. She mentioned in her letter that through the process of opening the school, they realized the power of dreaming and working towards those dreams because when we all come together, they aren't just dreams, with the right collaboration and resources, they can become a reality!

Mientras nuestro personal, los “padrinos” (patrocinadores/defensores de la comunidad) y la junta escolar (compuesta por padres de estudiantes) se reunieron en las puertas de Casa MARKED para abrir oficialmente la escuela, nuestros directores y fundadores hablaron pero, sorprendentemente, una de las mamás habló también. Había escrito una carta de agradecimiento para leer y expresar los sentimientos de todos los padres. Mencionó en su carta que a través del proceso de apertura de la escuela, se dieron cuenta del poder de soñar y trabajar para lograr esos sueños porque cuando todos nos unimos, no son solo sueños; con la colaboración y los recursos adecuados, ¡pueden convertirse en una realidad!

Happy tears were shed as our directors, founder, and even the representatives from CONAFE spoke. This school was an answer to prayer, a dream fulfilled and a reminder to all that when we come together, we can do so much more. Together, we are building something much grander than a classroom of students, we are laying the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. We are empowering these children and their families so that the ceilings we reach will be the floor of the upcoming generation.

Lloramos con lágrimas de felicidad mientras hablaban nuestros directores, fundadora e incluso los representantes de CONAFE. Esta escuela fue una respuesta a la oración, un sueño cumplido y un recordatorio para todos de que cuando nos unimos, podemos hacer mucho más. Juntos, estamos construyendo algo mucho más grandioso que un salón de clases de estudiantes; estamos construyendo la base para un mañana mejor. Estamos empoderando a estos niños y a sus familias para que los techos que alcancemos sean el piso de la próxima generación.

Though it was a busy week, there was such peace. The first week of classes went so smoothly. The children were excited to go into their classroom and not even one tear was shed as they waved goodbye to their parents. So many of these children formed part of the Mommy & Me group since they were little babies which means they are familiar with the teacher, our space, our rules, and routines.

Aunque fue una semana ocupada, había mucha paz. La primera semana de clases transcurrió sin problemas. Los niños estaban emocionados de entrar a su salón de clases y ni siquiera se lloró una lágrima mientras se despedían de sus padres. Muchos de estos niños formaron parte del grupo de educación inicial que eran pequeños, lo que significa que conocen nuestra maestra, el espacio, nuestras reglas y rutinas.

We cannot wait to share more about our kindergarten as well as our other partner schools as the school year gets going! We met with parents of the partner schools this week as each year they must vote to implement our programs and agree to their part of the partnership. These interactions with whole families are so important to us because our heart is not just to offer a one-size-fits-all solution to each community but instead, hear their hopes, help evaluate their needs and create a plan of action for healthy, long-lasting change, not just this year but for the years to come.

¡Estamos ansiosos por compartir más sobre nuestro preescolar y nuestras otras escuelas aliadas a medida que avanza el año escolar! Nos reunimos con los padres de las escuelas aliadas esta semana, ya que cada año deben votar para implementar nuestros programas y aceptar su parte de la asociación. Estas interacciones con familias enteras son muy importantes para nosotros porque nuestro corazón no es solo ofrecer una solución única para cada comunidad, sino escuchar sus esperanzas, ayudar a evaluar sus necesidades y crear un plan de acción para una vida sana, un cambio duradero, no sólo este año sino en los años venideros.
