A beautiful start to 2024 | Un hermoso comienzo al 2024

Vacations may have come to an end but the holiday fun certainly has not! Thanks to your generosity this Christmas season, we were able to celebrate in local schools, Casa MARKED and this week, we brought presents to children in the streets of another village, Chalpicote.

Puede que las vacaciones hayan llegado a su fin, ¡pero la diversión navideña ciertamente no! Gracias a su generosidad esta temporada navideña, pudimos celebrar en las escuelas locales, Casa MARKED y esta semana llevamos regalos a los niños en las calles de otro pueblo, Chalpicote.

It brought us great joy to surprise the children with the gifts and to have the opportunity to show them that they have not been forgotten. With these gifts, we shared with them that they are special and so very loved. What a beautiful start to 2024 we have had so far! It has only been one week but already we have seen so many smiles, served hundreds of meals and welcomed families back to daily programs at MARKED!

Nos dio mucha alegría sorprender a los niños con los regalos y tener la oportunidad de demostrarles que no han sido olvidados. Con estos regalos les compartimos que son especiales y muy amados. ¡Qué hermoso comienzo de 2024 hemos tenido hasta ahora! ¡Solo ha pasado una semana pero ya hemos visto tantas sonrisas, servido cientos de comidas y dado la bienvenida a las familias a los programas diarios en MARKED!

We cannot wait to see how MARKED can be used this year to continue to bless, feed, educate, and equip the families across the Ribera Chapala and beyond. As we embark on this journey we extend an invitation for your ongoing participation. Be more than donors; be partners in the remarkable story God is writing through the endeavors of MARKED. No podemos esperar a ver cómo se puede ser utilizado MARKED este año para continuar bendiciendo, alimentando, educando y equipando a las familias de toda la Ribera Chapala y más allá. Al empezar este nuevo año, extendemos una invitación para su participación continua. Se más que donante; se socios en la notable historia que Dios está escribiendo a través de los esfuerzos de MARKED. Su compromiso, oraciones y apoyo ayudan a crear un impacto duradero, elevando a las personas y comunidades necesitadas. ¡Trabajemos juntos para ser catalizadores del cambio que transforme la desesperación en esperanza, la oscuridad en luz y la pobreza en prosperidad en México este año!

Christmas in Community | Navidad en comunidad

Friday we served over 150 families at our Christmas event! We welcomed in hundreds of children and their parents for a nice holiday dinner of orange chicken, pasta, salad, various desserts and ponche. We also gave out 300 balls and bags of candy as gifts, broke open piñatas and all enjoyed a time of celebration gathered around the table together.

We had a full house and while this was by far the largest number of people we have ever had at Casa MARKED at one time, everything ran so smoothly! It must have been our fantastic helpers (See below!)

¡El viernes servimos a más de 150 familias en nuestro evento navideño! Recibimos a cientos de niños y a sus padres para una agradable cena navideña con pollo a la naranja, pasta, ensalada, varios postres y ponche. También regalamos 300 pelotas y bolos, rompimos las piñatas y todos disfrutamos de un momento de celebración reunidos alrededor de la mesa.

Tuvimos una casa llena y en este evento, dimos la bienveido al mayor número de personas que hemos tenido en Casa MARKED al mismo tiempo, ¡todo fluyó bastante bien! Debe haber sido por nuestros fantásticos ayudantes (¡allí están abajo!)

This was the first year that we did not have to rely on volunteers from outside of our communities. While we absolutely love having volunteers come to visit and in the past various teams have come from across Mexico and the states to make Christmas extra special, this year was special in a new way-- volunteers from our very own community stepped up! We had several young men who participate in our daily programs offer to help the day of the event the day of, and even helped make goodie bags and blow up the plastic balls days before.

Este fue el primer año que no tuvimos que depender de voluntarios que veníán de afuera de nuestra comunidad. Si bien nos encanta tener voluntarios de visita y en años pasados, varios equipos han venido de todo México y los Estados Unidos para hacer que la Navidad fuera aún más especial, este año fue especial de una manera nueva: ¡los voluntarios fueron de nuestra propia comunidad! Tuvimos varios jóvenes que participan en nuestros programas diarios que se ofrecieron a ayudar el día del evento, e incluso ayudaron a armar bolos y a inflar las pelotas en los dias antes también.

To us, it felt like celebrating Christmas together as one big family. Each day we see more and more of how the individuals in the villages have found purpose, hope and belonging through being part of this MARKED community. Our values that we have spent years sharing and teaching are now norms, shared values in this family that has formed.

Para nosotros fue como celebrar la Navidad juntos como una gran familia. Cada día vemos más y más cómo las personas de los pueblos aquí han encontrado propósito, esperanza y pertenencia al ser parte de esta comunidad MARKED. Nuestros valores que llevamos años compartiendo y enseñando ahora son normas, valores compartidos en esta nueva y gran familia que se ha formado.

We cannot thank you enough for your support in not just making this event possible, but for another year of thousands of meals served and individuals positively impacted through MARKED. Thanks to your generosity, prayers, time and talents, together, we have reached numerous hearts, empowered many families and best of all, offered a loving home and community for anyone who walks through our doors.
No podemos agradecerles lo suficiente por su apoyo no solo para hacer posible este evento, sino también por otro año de miles de comidas servidas y personas impactadas positivamente a través de MARKED. Gracias a su generosidad, oraciones, tiempo y talentos, juntos hemos alcanzado a cambiar muchos corazones, empoderado a muchas familias y, lo mejor de todo, hemos ofrecido un hogar y una comunidad llena de amor para cualquiera que cruce nuestras puertas.

Just this week, our program directors in San Pedro received this from a family. We were all so touched and we thought you might like to see it too since it´s thanks to everyone, including you that we can work to break cycles and empower families here in Mexico!

It reads: “ My family and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We bless you and offer many thanks to all who form part of MARKED for the beautiful things they do for all the people in our community and above all, for the children who you show so much care and kindness to. You bring so much joy to their hearts, filling their minds with memories that will last them a lifetime. Thank you for the chats and the advice you have given us to live well and for helping us remember that at all times, God loves us and showing us how praying is always enough, just ask from the heart and also for showing us the value of doing things because you like to, expecting nothing in return. Thank you for making all the kids and families happy who need it. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year full of blessings.”

Justo esta semana, nuestors directores de programa en San Pedro recibieron esta carta (foto arriba) de una familia. ¡Nos conmovió mucho y pensamos que te gustaria leerla también! Es gracias a todos- incluso a ti que podemos ayudar a romper ciclos y empoderar a families aquí en México!

La Peña Kinder

“Dale, dale dale!” the children sang out as each one took a turn at breaking open the piñata. Being gathered together, with the students of our partner school, the public kindergarten in La Peña, was the best start to the MARKED 2023 Christmas celebrations this past Friday, The laughter echoed throughout the school and the joy was absolutely infectious.

“¡Dale, dale, dale!” Los niños cantaron mientras cada uno se turnaba para romper la piñata. Estar reunidos con los estudiantes de nuestra escuela aliada, el kinder público en La Peña, fue el mejor comienzo para las celebraciones navideñas de MARKED 2023 el viernes pasado. Las risas resonaron en toda la escuela y la alegría fue absolutamente contagiosa.

Thanks to your help, MARKED was able to provide a piñata, lots of candy, gifts, and delicious food for all of the 100 children who attend the school. We came alongside of the teachers and parents to plan a special party for these kids and everyone chipped in what they could-some gave their time by helping decorate the school and serving food while others even helped prepare the food and brought other activities like nail polish and games for the kids to enjoy as well.

Gracias a su ayuda, MARKED pudo proporcionar una piñata, muchos dulces, regalos y comida deliciosa para los 100 niños que asisten a la escuela. Nos unimos a los maestros y padres para planificar una fiesta especial para estos niños y todos contribuyeron con lo que pudieron; algunos dieron su tiempo ayudando a decorar la escuela y sirviendo comida, mientras que otros ayudaron a preparar la comida y trajeron otras actividades como esmalte de uñas. y juegos para los niños también.

That´s how we like to do things—together. Each event, each program, and each partnership with local schools and organizations is made better when everyone has a part to play. When we work together, we learn, others can be empowered, and we can bring the very best to those we serve- from the community, for the community.

Así es como nos gusta hacer las cosas: juntos. Cada evento, cada programa y cada alianza con escuelas y organizaciones locales mejora cuando todos tienen un papel para tomar en ello. Cuando trabajamos juntos, aprendemos, otros pueden ser empoderados y podemos brindar lo mejor a aquellos a quienes servimos: de la comunidad y para la comunidad.

We cannot thank you enough for being part of MARKED and helping us bring the excitement of Christmas to our partner schools! The celebrations are just getting started but already, so many lives have been positively impacted!
